Engineering Branch Selection Trends in Last 5 Years
As per the trends come from last few years, most of the students like to persue Professional education like medicine (MBBS) and Engineering. Since the seats availability is fewer, getting admission in MBBS has become difficult and therefore the majority is left with next popular branch option i.e. Engineering. There are multiple entrance exams for Engineering like MHCET, JEE, AIEEE, etc. Over 13 Lac students appeared for JEE Mains entrance examination Last year, this is the largest entrance exam. After clearing different entrance exams most of students go through confusion of Branch selection. There are so many questions arrises during branch selection such as, Which engineering branch should I choose? or Which engineering branch is the best?; Which branch has the scope? or Which is best branch for getting good salary?. Deciding the right engineering stream is quite tricky for students as well as their parents.
As per the current trend, apart from the core branches, there are many sub-categories exist of these branches. Instead of Mechanical Engineering, today you can choose Mechatronics and instead of plain Electronics, you can choose a specialised branch such as Embedded Systems Engineering /Nano Engineering/ Power Electronics, etc.
Popular Engineering Courses in India
Computer engineering is the study of the theoretical foundations of information technology, its computation, implementation and application in computer systems. Computer science gives a lot of emphasize on fields like graphic designing, programming language theory and various other computation technology. In the past couple of years, IT sector has been growing rapidly and today it is one of the largest booming sectors in India. The pay scale and jobs available in this sector is very high.
Electronic engineering is also a good career option. By completing your graduation in electronics and communication, one can make a career in the telecommunication industry, consumer electronics, IT industry, healthcare equipment manufacturing industry, mobile communication, etc. An electronics engineer has a lot of scope in Government, as well as private organizations like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industry, Civil Aviation, Post and Telegraph department, etc
Civil engineering is one of the oldest and the most popular engineering streams available. It involves design, construction, and maintenance of buildings, roads, dams, bridges, construction of townships and so on. Even though it is limited to the real estate sector and the infrastructure sector, yet it would be an interesting career if you have the interest and passion for it.
There will always be opportunities for electrical engineers as this is an evergreen field. You will learn about transmission and generation of electrical power, electrical circuit design, electronics, instrumentation, control systems etc. There are a lot of openings for this profile in the government sector
Mechanical engineering is one of the most preferred and core streams of engineering education. Mechanical engineers are professionals needed in almost all sectors. Also, these courses are in very high demand in the job market. When you compare mechanical engineering to other engineering streams, it has a large scope in terms of choice, growth and earnings. A mechanical engineer can work in machine based industries, computer hardware and software industries, petroleum industries, electronics industries, aircraft industries, banking industry, etc.
Chemical engineering involves the study of designing, maintaining and operation of large scale machinery, industrial plants and chemical processing for the production of various products like fibers, fabrics, paints, medical drugs, biomaterials, gasoline, lubricants, etc. No doubt that chemical engineering stream is limited to certain fields only, but they are very well paid individuals. By completing this course, one can get employment in companies like Reliance Industries Ltd., Cairn India, Tata chemicals, etc.
The Aeronautical Engineering comes up with various specialized areas such as propulsion, computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics or materials and structures. Besides the most popular branches like Mechanical, Computer, Electrical and Civil, there are numerous other engineering branches like Chemical, Biotechnology, Aeronautical, Industrial, Instrumentation, Marine, etc. which have a good scope.
B. Tech in Biotechnology would throw up opportunities in production, research, and marketing in the fields such as environment, energy and conservation, agriculture and horticulture, medicine and health care, animal husbandry and dairy farming. Research oriented aspirants have a good scope in research laboratories and as professors and research assistants. There are opportunities with government and corporate run research and development organizations.
Considering the potential of progress in the next few years, genetic engineering has become one of the best choices for engineering students with wide range of career opportunities. Genetic engineering is a comparatively new branch of engineering and is a part of biotechnology. It is a combination of Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and some other related areas.
